TBS Holdings, Inc. (“TBS HD”), the parent company of THE SEVEN (Minato-ku, Tokyo; President &amp; CEO: Ryujiro Abe), has entered into a strategic partnership with Legendary Entertainment (“Legendary”), a world-class film studio headquartered in Hollywood. As part of the agreement, TBS HD has acquired a minority stake in Legendary for $150 million. As a studio driving the TBS Group’s global strategy, THE SEVEN will work closely with Legendary—a studio that has built and expanded globally renowned blockbuster franchises such as Dune, the Monsterverse series, and Minecraft—to strongly advance the creation of entertainment that captivates audiences worldwide. Under the partnership, the parties have agreed to continuously co-develop multiple projects based on Japanese IP, with THE SEVEN taking a leading role. Legendary’s expertise in development, production, and marketing will be combined with the TBS Group’s long-standing reputation and trusted position in the Japanese market to bring Japanese-originated stories to global audiences. Legendary has already produced numerous projects based on Japanese IP and has positioned THE SEVEN and the TBS Group as an ideal partner aligned with its long-term strategy to expand its presence beyond Japan. At the same time, Legendary highly values the TBS Group’s long-standing network within Japan’s creative industry, as well as its proven ability to collaborate with publishers, IP holders, and creators. This partnership represents an important step in Legendary’s broader strategy to expand its business with key local partners rooted in IP-rich markets. It also supports the TBS Group’s strategy to extend its content production capabilities beyond Japan in order to globally exploit its content and intellectual property, with THE SEVEN playing a central role in advancing this initiative. Producer Akira Morii from THE SEVEN, known for the globally successful Netflix series ALICE IN BORDERLAND, and director J.Q. Lee from Film Monster, a Korean production label under SLL, known for ALL OF US ARE DEAD, have announced their collaboration on a new drama series for the global market. This is an action-packed spectacular drama series featuring a protagonist who has acquired special abilities, and it is already in development.

Akira Morii has been known as the producer of hit Netflix drama series such as ALICE IN BORDERLAND Season 2, which set a record for the highest viewing hours as a Japanese Netflix production, as well as YU YU HAKUSHO, which ranked second in the world among all the drama series in all languages, including English, in the first week after its release. Since 2022, Akira Morii has served as the Chief Content Officer at THE SEVEN, overseeing the production of content tailored for global audiences.J.Q. Lee has been involved in production of leading films and drama series in Korea. He has directed acclaimed drama series such as ALL OF US ARE DEAD, which topped the charts in 91 countries for two weeks on Netflix&apos;s TOP10 (Non-English TV) after its release, and DAILY DOSE OF SUNSHINE, which portrayed the mental states of patients skillfully using VFX.Currently, each is in the process of producing the sequels to their respective globally acclaimed hit works, ALICE IN BORDERLAND Season 3 and ALL OF US ARE DEAD Season 2. Amidst global attention, they have initiated a new international co-production project.This project came about through a proposal from J.Q. Lee to collaborate with Morii, known for producing a series of global hit works originating from Japan. J.Q. The SEVEN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for co-production of films and drama series with SLL Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of SLL established in 2022. SLL is a leading Korean production studio that has worked on numerous hit works, including the highly successful ITAEWON CLASS, which was also remade in Japan. Collaborating with 15 labels, including Film Monster, to produce a variety of content.

One of Japan’s most acclaimed producers of live-action series and films. Starting with the film MABOROSI (1995), Morii has been involved in producing hit films including KIDS RETURN (1996) and BLOOD AND BONES (2004). He joined Robot Communications Inc. in 2009 and produced a number of well-received titles, including a TV series MOZU (2014) – which was nominated for Best Drama Series at the 43rd International Emmy Awards. J.Q. Lee made a debut as a director with MBC drama DAMO in 2003, produced FASHION 70&apos;S in 2005, BEETHOVEN VIRUS in 2008, and THE KING 2 HEARTS in 2014. In addition, directed the play THE LAST BLOSSOM, the movie THE INFLUENCE in 2010, and the movie THE FATAL ENCOUNTER in 2014.He works as a director across various genres without being confined to any specific genre, established the film and drama production company FILM MONSTER in 2015 and has been continuing his creative endeavors. The movie INTIMATE STRANGERS, directed by J.Q. Lee in 2018, ranked fourth at the South Korean box office in the same year.The drama ALL OF US ARE DEAD, directed by J.Q. Lee in 2022, set a new record on Netflix for the highest viewing hours in its opening week and remained in the number one spot worldwide for 15 days. Japanese producer Motoko Kimura, based in Los Angeles, joins this deal, aiming for a global expansion in a new form that transcends traditional U.S.-Japan frameworks.Morii has an impressive portfolio that includes the International Emmy nominated series MOZU (TBS Television / WOWOW), and the global hit Netflix series ALICE IN BORDERLAND and YU YU HAKUSHO. Motoko Kimura is a TV, film, and theater creator/producer from Japan based in Los Angeles, California. Kimura has considerable experience working with all of the major Japanese TV networks and studios. Kimura became the CEO of Dream Plus Co. Ltd., where over the course of 15 years, she produced 13 mini-series, 2 special dramas, and 15 feature films including the hit South Korean film A MOMENT TO REMEMBER and LDK and USHIJIMA THE LOAN SHARK. Kimura moved to Los Angeles in 2021 and started several projects in Hollywood.

This studio is equipped to handle the production of content tailored for streaming platforms that demand high-quality content.

グローバルオーディエンスに向けたクオリティの高いコンテンツ製作を目指す株式会社THE SEVEN（所在地：東京都港区、代表取締役社長 菅井龍夫、以下：THE SEVEN）は、高品質な映像が求められる配信プラットフォーム向け作品の制作に対応可能な専用スタジオを、2023年12月1日（金）より、TBS緑山スタジオ（横浜市青葉区）内にオープンいたしました。

Within the approximately 80,000 square meters of Midoriyama Studio owned by TBS Holdings, THE SEVEN has completed the dedicated &apos;M6 Studio,&apos; in addition to the existing television production studios. This new studio, with a total construction cost of 2 billion yen, is now ready for use.The &apos;M6 Studio&apos; boasts one of Japan&apos;s largest studio areas, covering approximately 1,000 square meters with a height of 10 meters, allowing indoor shooting with large-scale sets. Additionally, it is equipped with a *Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) room, enabling the immediate confirmation of recorded video data. We have also established a high-speed communication infrastructure suitable for the swift transmission of large data. This setup provides an optimal environment for both shooting content intended for global streaming platforms that demand high-end video quality and the subsequent post-production processes.Furthermore, there is an expansive open space adjacent to the studio, covering approximately 66,000 square meters, which can be utilized for various purposes. This space allows for the construction of large-scale sets, similar to those used in “SASUKE / Ninja Warrior”, enabling nighttime shooting in conjunction with the M6 Studio. This flexibility adds to the appeal of the facilities.As Japan faces a chronic shortage of studios, THE SEVEN has secured creative flexibility and production certainty with this state-of-the-art studio. Currently, we have received multiple offers for collaborations and co-productions from overseas, and we are gearing up to accommodate the increasing number of projects in the future.At the M6 Studio, THE SEVEN will commence set shooting for the highly successful Netflix series Alice in Borderland Season 3 (currently in production).

*Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) ：DIT is the profession that handles data handling from the shooting to editing of digital images. Involved from pre-shooting, the Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) manages cameras, ensures monitor setups, performs color correction following the workflow at the shooting location, and facilitates image sharing. Collaborating with various sections in production, they oversee the quality check of captured footage. After shooting, they back up the media and deliver it to the post-production for the finalization process.

緑山スタジオ・シティに、世界標準のスペックを備えた約 300 坪の日本有数の規模を誇る配信コンテンツ向け撮影スタジオを準備し、また、港区赤坂に、作品の系統に応じて柔軟に対応可能な専用 VFX ルームを設けて、様々な作品制作に対応してまいります。才能あるクリエイターが気軽に集まって、熱く議論できるような設計にした新オフィスが今月赤坂にオープン。最新のファシリティーを揃えることで、クリエイターにベストな環境を整えてまいります。
