THE SEVEN is proud to announce that the upcoming Netflix series Quiztopia, planned, produced, and developed by THE SEVEN, will debut globally on Thursday, December 17, 2026, only on Netflix.

Ahead of the premiere, Netflix has released a teaser trailer featuring lead actor Takayuki Yamada as KK, along with the announcement of 16 new cast members. The newly released footage offers a glimpse into this wildly chaotic world, capturing crowds driven to frenzy by the national quiz show—brought to life with a staggering total of 8,000 extras across the production.

First published in 1993, the legendary manga "Kokumin Kuizu" (Written by Reiichi Sugimoto, Illustrated by Shinkichi Kato) struck a chord with its provocative premise and unique world-building, earning a reputation as "impossible to adapt." Now, starring Takayuki Yamada and directed by Noriyuki Yoshida, this groundbreaking story comes to life as an epic eight-episode live-action Netflix series.

Set in an alternate Japan where Quiztopia—a national televised quiz show—has become the country’s supreme governing authority. Under the National Quiz Law, any contestant who survives the quiz can have virtually any wish granted by the government—from wealth and fame to the erasure of criminal records, the elimination of enemies, the establishment of an independent state, or even the private ownership of national landmarks.
Meanwhile, eliminated contestants face brutal forced labor as punishment. Human desires are consumed as sheer entertainment, whipping society into a frenzy in a "cheerfully dystopian" world. THE SEVEN portrays this chaotic spectacle and the revolutionary uprising at its center on an unprecedented scale.

Lead actor Takayuki Yamada plays KK, the iconic host of Quiztopia and an unparalleled entertainer who continuously fuels the public’s darkest desires. Joining Yamada is a formidable ensemble of 16 newly announced cast members:
Riko Ishida plays Mari, a mysterious girl intent on assassinating KK, alongside Kana Kurashina as her mother, Ayako. Koji Seto stars as Seiji Nanbara, an activist plotting the downfall of Quiztopia. Masahiro Takashima plays Commander Murakoshi, who leads the squad responsible for enforcing penalties determined by the quiz results. Eiko Koike portrays Shoko Kamijo, the ruthless producer behind Quiztopia, while Renji Ishibashi steps into the role of Takeshi Gokumazawa, the Prime Minister of Japan.
The cast is further rounded out by Rin Kataoka, Yuzu Aoki, Naoki Matsukawa, Yuki Imai, Shunsuke Daito, Kou Maehara, Hoshino Disco, First Summer Uika, Keiko Horiuchi, and Toshinori Omi.

The newly released teaser trailer captures a nation utterly obsessed with Quiztopia whenever KK takes the microphone. From living rooms and local izakayas to massive public displays on street corners, the sheer scale of this frenzy was brought to life with a total of 8,000 extras across the shoot, delivering an overwhelming visual presence for this gigantic quiz show.

THE SEVEN—a production powerhouse dedicated to developing and producing high-end content for global audiences—spearheaded the planning, production, and creative execution of Quiztopia. Having brought acclaimed Japanese IPs to the world stage, including the hit series Alice in Borderland and the sword-action entertainment Song of the Samurai (Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem), THE SEVEN now takes on the challenge of adapting the "unfilmable" Quiztopia.
The creative team is led by THE SEVEN’s Chief Content Officer (CCO) Akira Morii as Chief Producer, alongside Producers Tomoki Takase and Yoichi Hamamatsu. THE SEVEN’s dedicated creative network further fortifies the project, featuring VFX Producer Tomofumi Akahane and Post-Production Supervisor Norimasa Ishida.

Reimagining the manga’s intense premise—the state, the quiz show, and public desire—set in a familiar yet altered Japan, the team utilizes modern visual technology and live-action scale to craft an unprecedented "Japan Wonderland."
